Astigmatism is a condition that causes blurred vision because of the irregular shape of the cornea or curvature of the lens. Light is not focused properly on the retina and as a result vision becomes blurred at any distance causing eye discomfort and headaches.
Your doctor and/or optometrist will conduct an eye examination to diagnose astigmatism. You may be prescribed corrective glasses or contact lenses, while certain cases may require surgery to treat astigmatism. Some surgical treatment options include:
- Laser-Assisted in-situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)
- Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
- Intra-ocular lens implant
